Duke and Bremner Healthcare to Build Long-Term Acute Care Hospital for Kindred Healthcare in Greenwood, IN

Released: 10/24/2006

Project marks second development Bremner-Duke will build for Kindred

Kindred Healthcare, a healthcare services company, has chosen Bremner-Duke to expand the company’s existing operations in Greenwood with the construction of a new 3-story, approximately 54,200-square-foot Long-Term Acute Care (LTAC) hospital. Known as a national leader in the long-term acute care industry, Kindred currently operates 80 hospitals in 24 states.

“Bremner-Duke has been discussing several opportunities with Kindred over the past months,” said Jim Bremner, Bremner Healthcare’s President & Chief Executive Officer. “This is actually the second time our companies have worked together. In May, we began the redevelopment of an existing facility in Richmond, Virginia.”

The building will sit on approximately 5 acres in the Greenwood Springs subdivision, south of the new County Line Road/I-65 interchange. Bremner-Duke will utilize steel construction with architectural precast concrete for the exterior. The first floor will house ancillary services, including administrative, radiology and imaging, laboratory, rehabilitation, and dining. The second floor will have 30 private rooms and the third floor will have 22 private rooms and 8 ICU beds.

“We are pleased to be working with Bremner-Duke on this important project,” said Steven L. Monaghan, Executive Vice President, West Group, Hospital Division, Kindred Healthcare. “This new hospital will replace our existing Kindred Hospital Indianapolis South. Indianapolis has been a good market for our hospital services and we look forward to building on that success.” Bremner-Duke is a joint venture between Bremner Healthcare, a national developer and manager of healthcare facilities and Duke Realty Corporation, the nation’s largest publicly-traded mixed-use commercial real estate company. The two companies formed a partnership in 2004 to combine and complement expertise to benefit clients.

In the past year, the Bremner-Duke partnership began 8 healthcare related projects totaling more than $100 million in new development across the country.
