INDIANAPOLIS-BASED FIRM WAS SEVENTH LARGEST HEALTHCARE REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT COMPANY LAST YEAR, ACCORDING TO NEW TRADE MAGAZINE SURVEY
INDIANAPOLIS, April 14, 2010 – BremnerDuke Healthcare Real Estate held its own in a tough economy in 2009, ranking as America’s seventh largest healthcare real estate developer for the second year in a row, according to Modern Healthcare magazine’s annual “Construction & Design Survey.”
“When times are tough, there’s no substitute for experience,” says Deeni Taylor, Executive Vice President, BremnerDuke. “We succeeded last year in large part because our hospital, health system and physician clients knew – despite the recession and frozen credit markets – that they could rely on us as one of the most experienced and knowledgeable healthcare real estate teams in the country.”
With 21 years of healthcare real estate experience, Indianapolis-based BremnerDuke has been a fixture in Modern Healthcare’s top developer rankings for several years. The firm has been in the top 15 since 2005 and in the top 10 during each of the past two years.
The trade magazine’s survey, which was published March 15, was based on the dollar volume of healthcare real estate projects completed during 2009. BremnerDuke earned its top 10 ranking based on completed projects valued at more than $184 million last year. Those projects totaled about 794,000 square feet, a 10.7 percent increase over the previous year.
Some of the larger projects that BremnerDuke completed in 2009 included:
- the four-story, 205,591 square foot Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) Medical Office Building (MOB) in Mishawaka, Ind.;
- the seven-story, 140,455 square foot Baylor Plano MOB in Plano, Texas; and
- the 24-bed, 57,243 square foot Baylor Orthopedic & Spine Hospital of Arlington, Texas.
The 31st annual Modern Healthcare Construction & Design Survey used dollar volume of completed projects to rank the leading healthcare real estate firms in five categories: development companies, construction management companies, general contractors, architectural firms and design/build companies. It also ranked the top projects by category.
