Emory Eastside Medical Center Growing

Released: 7/20/2010

BremnerDuke breaks ground for new medical office building as part of expansion intended to make healthcare better and more accessible for residents of Snellville, Ga., near Atlanta

SNELLVILLE, Ga., July 20, 2010 – Emory Eastside Medical Center is expanding its capacity to be poised for continued growth in Gwinnett County and the surrounding area, according to hospital officials.

As part of the hospital’s most recent expansion, EEMC and BremnerDuke Healthcare Real Estate broke ground last month for a new, two-story, 40,162 square foot medical office building (MOB). A $12 million emergency department expansion has also begun.

Emory Eastside Medical Center (EEMC) opened in 1980 and has developed a sound reputation for providing quality healthcare services to Gwinnett county residents,” said EEMC Chief Operating Officer Dustin Greene. “The community has come to rely on Eastside for excellent community-based care and these enhancements to our facility will ensure our ability to continue to meet those needs efficiently and effectively.”

The new MOB, which is being developed directly adjacent to the hospital, is slated to include a new state-of-the art Spine Center as well as office space for medical service providers, including neurosurgical and endocrine specialists.

“This new medical office building and emergency department will enable us to offer additional services in an on-campus location making it convenient for our patients to access the care they need,” said Greene.

The need for the new MOB was driven by the fact that the two existing on-campus MOBs are at capacity, explains Don Dunbar, Executive Vice President for BremnerDuke, a division of Duke Realty Corp.

“This new MOB will provide much-needed space for the medical providers serving this growing community,” Mr. Dunbar says. “We are pleased to have been selected to develop this new facility and be part of Emory Eastside Medical Center’s expansion.”

Besides overseeing the development of the building, BremnerDuke will manage site modifications, including earthwork, utilities, roads, curbs, landscaping and lighting.

Construction of the new MOB is scheduled to be complete by July 2011. RJ Griffin and Co., a member of the JE Dunn Construction Group, is serving as the general contractor. The architect is Lyman Davidson Dooley Inc. and the civil engineer is Brock Design Group Inc.

The new facility has also been designed to accommodate possible future vertical and horizontal expansions that could roughly triple its initial size – continuing to grow with the community.

Some space is still available for lease in the new EEMC MOB. For more information, please contact Larry Jarema, Vice President of Leasing for BremnerDuke at 770-717-3256 or larry.jarema@bremnerduke.com.
